Jessica – Hannah’s House Graduate
“I finally get to live in God’s peace and joy rather than the despair and darkness homelessness and addiction left me with.”
My name is Jessica. I finally chose to live on August 30th, 2023, when I walked through the doors of Hannah’s House and decided to stay rather than run. My life of addiction began at fourteen when I started helping my dad sell drugs and began to use with him. I then spent several decades battling addiction and homelessness, which robbed me of my dignity and self-worth. I believed that I would die a junkie on the streets, and during that time, I was okay with that… until I found out my children were living a nightmare and needed their mom. I was never able to get sober for myself, but faced with the nightmare my children were living, I knew I had to get sober for them.
By coming to Hannah’s House, I have had the opportunity to heal from past traumas and develop the coping skills I needed to be a present mother to my boys. I finally get to live in God’s peace and joy rather than the despair and darkness homelessness and addiction left me with. God truly brought beauty from the ashes by giving me hope and a future through the healing I received at Hannah’s House. I now look forward to what the next day brings rather than living in fear of sickness or any other trauma the streets could bring. God has been giving me restoration with my family and my boys, something I never believed possible, all thanks to surrendering to what He had for me inside the doors of Hannah’s House, and I am forever grateful!
Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. —Proverbs 4:23
